Problems installing Kopete on Mandrake 9.2! HELP!

do you agree ?

I just loaded Mandrake on this computer and I can't get this to work... I also tried AIM with no luck either...

have you tried GAIM? ( http://gaim.sf.net/ )

ALOT better than kopete or native cleints, the trillian of linux, it even shares some code with trillian (mainly patches for connecting to IM networks)

Yeah, well that would be nice and all but I got KDE...

gaim will work in KDE.

What do I need to burn ISOs on linux? I might try burning the other two Mandrake Discs because I only got the first one... :-\

Otherwise do you have a link to gcc?

You just need cdrecord (and optionally something like xcdroast for a graphical interface to it) to burn cds. I'd recommend you do burn the other cds as then you'll probably have all the packages you're missing.

Ok it sound like to me you need to go over your mandrake 9.2 install with all the discs, because you are missing a lot.
Mandrake includes Gaim, and I think maybe two or three other IM clients just for compatibility with AIM. Mandrake also includes cdrecord, and xcdroast, eroaster, gcombust, hell quite a bit of cd burning software. Finally there are more compiling tools included than I know what to do with(this coming from a CIS major). Be sure to also install gnome, even if you never plan on using it, many programs require it to run, even in kde.

so... when i do get some CD-Rs how do I use this? Like step-by-step... Sorry I sound stupid but whatever.

Run
cdrecord -scanbus
and look at the output. You should see a line that describes your cd burner, with three comma separated digits at the beginning of the line.

Now just burn the iso with
cdrecord -v speed=8 dev=0,0,0 -data imagefile.iso

Replace the 'speed' setting with whatever speed you want to burn at, and replace the 3 dev numbers with whatever three digits you had returned with -scanbus.

Sorry, I'm just trying to make sure that once I do get disks it's actually going to write cos I don't want to just have to throw them away...

Yes, just use the exact command I suggested (though you can set the speed to whatever you like/your drive supports).
