cabletron drivers

I recently got RedHat 7.3 from a LAN (that was only 2 days before the release of 8.0) and I was looking for a driver for my Cabletron 21143-PC network card.

I haven't been able to locate a source for a driver as of yet, and I was wondering if I could get some assistance.

First of al, I suggest you get a better NIC (like the D-Link 530TX+) because your current card is very buggy and incompatible with different switches and hubs (search on google "Cabletron 21143 + linux" without the quotation marks).

Apparantly, RH should have auto-detected though, it's pretty known to work under linux (even if with bugs, anyway).

Try using Red Hat's hardware detection wizard to configure your nic..

Be careful with the D-Link 530tx+. I was just researching that card because I was having other problems. There are several different chipsets used in the same model. Redhat states that some users have had problems. Be sure that the serial number actually has "DFE530TX+" on it.

Redhat recommends:
DFE-550TX as certified hardware.
DFE-500TX as compatible.
DFE-540TX as compatible.

I ended up buying a Netgear FA311 PCI 10/100. It is packaged as Linux compatible for $10.00 and it works.
*meow!* I didn't say Linux was easier, I said it was better, Dumbass!

Yep, FA311 is a beaut.
Contains scenes of mild peril.

The newest models work perfectly. I bought three, two of the newest model, and one older one. They work like MAGIC!
