Red Hat : Update
« on: 30 August 2002, 02:29 »
Well, today I finished assembling a pc from various spare parts I had lying around, specs are PII 450, 128MB Ram, 6GB HDD, Ati XPert 2000 16MB, Terratec XFire 1024 on a Gigabyte G6-BXD motherboard.
This machine's only goal in life will be to test various linux distros and weighing the pros and cons of each one.

So I started with Red Hat 7.3, selected Grub as a bootloader and Gnome as GUI.
Installation was completed in 35 minutes and I must say it looks really fine, gonna toy with it for a while and the I'll be installing another distro, prolly try out Lycoris or ELX, just to see what they're like.

Ok, I've been toying with it until 3 AM, I'm at work now and I'm dead tired, but what the hell .....

So far I really like Red Hat, maybe even more than SuSE, there's a more polished feel to it.
I switched back and forth between Gnome and KDE to find exactly the same programs installed, same menus and so on so there's not much difference there.
Red Hat seems less cluttered even if it's 90% comparable to SuSE.
I'll do another update tomorrow after digging a little deeper.
