SuSE 9.0 personal ftp installation
« on: 6 February 2004, 05:50 »
i downloaded the SuSE 9.0 personal folder and did a harddrive install in my "better" machine.  i must say, i LOVED IT!!  so i thought my dad would like to try it and wanted to do a ftp install in his comp.  since his harddrive is too small i cant do a harddrive install.  i erased XP, format and pop in the boot cd for suse all ready to tackle the ease of installation.  after loading the network modules, i relized that there was no driver for my linksys 100tx or the d-link 530tx....  :(  now i have no operating system in that box!  i searched on google with no help...
can anyone here help me? please!!!
thanks!

the old comp has about 9.5 gigs on it.  and the xp installation took up a lot.  i didnt have enough space for the 7.2 gig linux ftp directory that i downloaded to go on that computer.  that;s why the ftp lookedlike the best option.

and the suse installation took about 1.3 gig.  plenty of space left in there!!

9.5 gigs isn't small (I did a SuSE FTP-installation on a 2 gig partition).
As far as I know u only need 400MB (2gig recommended).
U don't have to download everything...

took me a while actually, about 12-14 hours.  would've taken longer but the download speed was VERY GOOD(330kbps for most of the time).  i downloaded from a boston mirror listed here.

the mirrors have folders like -----suse/i386/9.0/
i downloaded the 9.0 directory with filezilla.
made a boot disk, and did a harddrive install.  worked like a charm.
