Excerpt from MSNBC (oh the irony) tech news.

WASHINGTON, May 27 ? Microsoft Corp. withdrew a security improvement for its flagship Windows XP software after it crippled Internet connections for some of the 600,000 users who installed it. Microsoft officials said Tuesday the update ? which had been available as an option since Friday on its ?Windows Update? Web site ? apparently was incompatible with popular security software from other companies, such as Symantec Corp.MSNBC M$ bolloxed up again.

Save this article quick on your hard-disk. The mother-company of MSNBC maybe will pull this off MSNBC...

You're really fucked when you had "Automatic updates" on. It downloads a patch so that you can't go on the internet, and then you can't fetch a patch that fixes that problem because... well... your internet connection is blocked. I wonder how many websites are offline by this.

You could likely just uninstall the patch from  "Add/Remove Programs".

M$ are turning into a farce. I really find it hard to express my disdain for M$ without the use of foul language. To communicate this type of balls up to high level managers is extremely difficult when you can't swear ! M$ really have lost the plot with XP, it's a f*****g liability.

Of course, but when you're a system administrator that checks many servers only once a week, and your boss ordered you to use Windows, not Linux, it's a logical step to put "Automatic updates" on.
And now Microsoft brought out a stupid patch that they didn't even test themselves. You'd have to remove the patch from every individual computer.

So much for rock solid reliability and time saving enterprising...

Trust me, its shit. They install some patch and then they give you the wrong instructions to uninstall it, leading you to delete very important files that are supposed to keep your computer going...
Once deleted, you can't get them back and Windows Update can't get them back, still thinking there's something wrong with it.
The only real choice you have in life is to make your own decisions...

Likely is not an appropriate word.  How many times has MS decided to release patches, DX versions, MSIE versions, etc. which according to them cannot be removed??
