Is it possible to install Mandrake from the HD???

Each time I try to burn I get an error. I wasted like 4 cdrs. Yeah, i'm stupid, should've stopped at the first, or atleast the 2nd time I got the error. I hate myself. So em, is it possible to install Mandrake from the HD? I know you can install Red Hat from HD(Or at least my dad did that), but Mandrake isn't Red Hat.

i don't think you can if you only have the ISO images...
are you trying to burn the CDs from windows? i had that same problem for months, turned out some dlls had been overwritten and i had to totally reinstall windows. it has worked fine for a few months now, but i am frightened to install any new programs on it!

I have a proggie that extract ISO images to the HD, so don't worry about that.

But it seems that that proggie fucked up and didn't unpack some files properly, so installing isn't working. Or some other shit happend and it errored.

BTW, how much MB should I make the swap partition? I'm using 2GB for Linux(Will expand if satisfied with Linux, so i'm sure it will get larger) I have 8gb in total. Which sucks.

make yr swap partition about 150Mb to 200Mb i'd say, also, you will probably not ever need more than 2Gb for linux, if you have large files, keep them on a seperate partition is my advice, you can then have 1 windows partition (4Gb), 1 linux partition(2Gb) then use the remaining 2 Gb (less the swap aprtition and so on) as a fat32 partition to store files on. This last partition can then be used by both operating systems and you can share files back and forth easily.

my linux partitions are:
/boot=100mb (its too big)
/tmp=1GB (i should have made it bigger to hold CD images)
/=20GB
swap=200MB

i still have 22GB of free space i can partition.

i suggest using a 200MB swap, and using 2 GB for your "/" (root) partition. I installed almost everything with red hat and it came to 1.87 GB, but you obviously wont be installing all (or most) of the packages that come with it. If you intend to burn CDs you might want to make it 2.2 GB (if your like me and store 3 GB worth of cd images)

I installed an older slackware distro from the HD w/o probz. just copy them to a dir on yer win part (if you have one) or whatever part. remember to name the dir something short and simple (like mdk). then write the hd boot image from the cd or mdk site to a floppy and boot with the floppy. bam, you're all set (hopefully). if you fail it's your fault, if you're successful, i take full credit. let me know if there's anything more.

oh, and by copy them i mean copy the packages (*.rpm off the 2 cds). the boot image for the floppy is in images. it's called hd i think or something like that. you write it to a floppy using rawrite(dosutils/rawritewin(the one w/ the star/penguin icon)).

Nero, I know it sucks, but my CDR-burner sucks too(Extremely old 2x cdr writer).

Anyway, I installed Mandrake an' all, but X-Window wont work properly. I have an S3 vision 968 pci vidcard, which is supported, but it doesn't work(Also, Diamond Stealth Drivers work on windoze, but not on linux, it says that I don't have the proper device.

Your SOL here. I had an Nvidia 3 Which is not supported by Linux. Basically, none of the window managers will run properly. You can run the command promt just fine however, depends what you wanna do.

Linux has a long way to go. But it will get tere, just you wait

But there's a diffrence between my card and yours. IT'S FUCKING OLD!!!!    I even have a old copy of Red Hat 5.0 which supports that card!
