hidden files
« on: 24 December 2002, 12:38 »
Right now i'm running a samba pdc for my win2k machines. All goes well pretty much. Except when it copies the profile to the server, the desktop.ini files, which should be hidden, are unhidden because of the change in filesystems. when copied back over all of the desktop.ini files are visible. a simple annoyance, but it's also visible in the startup folder... so i get a notepad document that opens every time. My question is, is there any way i can make these files hidden on the ext3 filesystem? i haven't heard of hidden files that didn't start with a . on linux before. Thanks.

That's strange. It doesn't happen on my setup. Maybe you have something misconfigured? I just tested my Win2k Advanced Server which is a member of the domain my Linux PDC serves with roaming profiles and I have no desktop.ini files showing up in the manner you state.
Someone please remove this account. Thanks...

I do, and just for kicks i reinstalled the server and a client completely with the same results. redhat 7.3, samba that came with it. win2k, winme, and my 2k server (dont have advanced) does it too. they just dont stay hidden. you have any possible solution or anything i should look into. it's been bugging me for weeks but i'm just now doign something about it. i'm clueless at this point. thanks.
