here's the deal

I am new to Linux and am trying to load SuSe 8.2

While it's initializing everything it comes up and says my D:\ has a invalid file structure and to only continue if I know what I'm doing.  I'm thinking hey, I been using puters at more than a yahoo hero for seeral years...Hell I even figured out 3DStudio Max without the tutorials or manuals...I can do this...

One Word:

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

while loading the draft for my printer the progress bar just stops at 11%.  It doesn't lock up, I can still use my mouse, however the abort button is responsive in that it pushes in but nothing happens...  No other warnings or cryptic messages appear...I even tested the printer sets and it passed fine....

If yall can...Please:
time to scratch the chin, say hmmmmmmmmmm, make a witty reark followed by a no really, here's what happened comment ask me ??? I'll tell ya whatever I can

Thanx in Advance

Oh yeah, btw

SuSe recognized my Sound Card, video card and octopus hub I have that resembels a USB with all of the devices comming out of it with no prob...matter of fact didn't have to deal with the "Digital Signature"  AKA You didn't register your product with microsoft and conform 100% with the way Billy wants it so it's just a matter of when WinBlowz is going to crash your computer bull shit either...that was nice!

Yeah, the printer is supported...it's a HP 697c deskjet...Suse picked it up right off the bat...it even passed the testing by Suse, it's just when it loads the configuration, it suddenly stops at 11%and says it was loading the printer draft

Use the driver disk from your printer.

But did it come from the disk that came with the printer?

ok...I got it loaded...by skipping the configuration...then I manually set stuff...got the vid card working fine...sound card...hmm nogo, but it loaded everything for it and even let me set up the volumes n stuff....now back to the printer...I may have discovered the prob...does SuSe allow a parallel connection (ie...my scanner (an oldie but goody Mustek 1200lp is paralleled between my system and printer so it only uses one slot for both...another prob...I since have lost the adapter to take it off the parallel port and put it on a serial to run it seperate and it's to old for USB...any thoughts on that.  SuSe even identifies there's an unknown device between my puter and printer but wouldn't let me tell it that thingy in the middle was a scanner.  And nope the driver was the one inherent to SuSe Linux 8.2, I could try my driver disck but enter problem report # 6969696969:  Your shit was designed for a HP (really old puter ran win 98SE and was my first) Pavillion 4656 and this disc only contains drivers for 98SE, 98, 95, and 3.x...Time to go get a more modern printer I guess, but this one has always done exactly what I wanted, Photo's, Graphic Rendered images, generic print shtuff...oh well, it's a dinosaur.

Same question: Did you use the driver disk from your printer? I had the same problem with SuSE 7.3
If you don't have this disk, just get it from your vendor.

PS: Your printer will work with the right driver.

I will probably have to go online for the driver...anyone know where I can get printer drivers for unsupported models of HP deskjets?

Another ???
My mouse is a MS (Iknow...spare me) Intellimouse 3.0 and my 4th and 5th buttons don't work in SuSe...can that be configured to work?

ALSO...
I believe I covered this in another thread...in summary
300 different O/S's for sell at the Post exchange
Approximately 50 of them were SuSe 8.2
This happened for like 3 months
The day I decide to buy SuSe, Post Exchange has exactly none
Conclusion=Everyone suddenly woke up the day before I went to purchase a copy (@ $35.00 Tax Free Shopping ROCKS, another advantage of being military) and had an uncontrollable burning desire to purchase not all of one type, but every fersluggin frikken O/S on the shelf
My options now...wait again!

Again I say...Coincidence, I think not!

lol...yeah
button 1 = standard left click
button 2 = standard right click
button 3 = clickable scroll wheel can be config for whateve you want
button 4 = side button, I use it for forward on internet pages
button 5 = rear side thumb button, I use it for back on the internet, also press and hold brings up seperate pages

I have mine set up that way, but there's litterally a million different ways to configure it for whatever you want it to do, even as hotkeys...damn near anything.
