upgrading

hey folks, im currently running RH 7.2, and I have a copy of RH9 but I get a lot of problems when 9 is installed, and none at all with 7.2..  Is it possible to upgrade just some of the stuff currently installed, without messing up my 7.2??

for example, my graphics card works better in 9 (thats about all) , 9 recognises it as a Radeon 7000, while 7.2 only recognises it as Radeon Generic... So in an ideal world, I would like to use 7.2 but with the graphic drivers that 9 has..

can this be done, and can someone tell me how to do it please.

cheers

You could try downloading and compiling the source RPMS for XFree86 designed for RH 9.  That may work.

If it doesn't, go to www.xfree86.org.  Download, compile, and install the source for XFree86.

Yeah, you can just copy the source rpm from the RH 9 source CD's.  You can also download it from one of the many Red Hat mirrors.

Do you know how to build an RPM from an SRPM?

Pulling XFree rpms off RH9 for RH7: Nope. That won't work. At least easily. RH9 uses a different and newer glibc. So you need to install that too. And then I don't know if that messes up the other glibc and stops all your programs from working.

Search rpmfind.net and rpmseek.net for it.

That's why I said SOURCE rpms.  You build an rpm from an SRPM and it uses the libraries you have installed.
