HELP!!!!!!!!!! need security help
« on: 3 November 2003, 18:01 »
I'm using Redhat 9.0. I have just this past weekend set up SAMBA. The linux user i'm using for samba has its primary group set to root so that it has full privleges. I'm a noob but learning when it comes to linux security. I see all the shares setup in samba on my w2k box and can browse the shares but get error of access denied when i try to copy files to the linux box. The linux system is running my web site and i'm trying to update the site. please help.

Hi Cdhgold,

Humm SMB / CIFS share on a live web server. That is going to get hacked REAL quick unless you are droping ports 137, 138, 139 at your router (yes BEFORE it gets to the firewall) rather you than me!

Check you have the disk partitions mounted RW in /etc/fstab on the webserver also go here and have a read...

Have fun
