Problem with Mandrake 9.0

It just goes

"Detecting usb interface /etc/init.d/usb: line 37 /etc/modules.conf: read only file system"

Alot of time, then it stops, and then it [ OK ]'s nothing alot of time. But Linux itself won't start.

Need... Help...

Oh, and BTW, I don't have any USB ports on this crappy P.O.S.

I don't use Mandrake but can't you do an interactive startup (press 'I' for Interactive)?  If so, bypass the "usb" service when starting up interactively. Once booted, turn off the USB service since you have no plans of using it:

# /sbin/chkconfig usb off

However you probably have that. So if you go to the old 8.2 errata page there is a compaq bug that has a patch used to bypass the USB detection. You might want to try that. I think there is a way to tell your system not to search for USB, but I don't know how I'm afraid.

Not very helpful I know, but it might point you in the right direction.

Of course this is biased towards an install.
