Depending on the distro you should be able to install it with only about 4MB but don't plan on running X, at least be prepared for it to run very slow. Many years ago I used to run it regularly on 4MB machines but today I have a personal minimum of 128MB for server and 256MB for desktop (at least while RAM is cheap).

I have no personal experience with win4lin but have read many reviews.  I bought VMware which works extremely well (wouldn't run it on a slow machine with less than 256MB though).

For pure performance, make sure you have 2 gigs
of swap for every 8M of ram. That makes it real
fast. Then you should install winex and run
mozilla for windows under linux. Nice. Thats
all I got to say.

If I'd follow this advice I'd need a 256Gb swap partition .... yikes  :D

I think I'll keep it the way I have now with no swap partition  ;)

I could have sworn someone answered your exact question in one of the other threads, but if not: no

Not for the kinds of games you probably want to play.  Any non-directx and non-heavy video intensive games should work fine though.  But that's why I have a PS2.

VMware is more for "work" than for play.  I don't know of *any* productivity apps or *any* non-game MS app that will not work with it.
