I downloaded the iso's for SuSe...now what....damn things aint workin

I went to SuSeLinux's link for the d/l...
even d/l'ed the boot disk and the full disc for SuSe 8.2

I've reformatted my hd for fat32 and set for generic partitions...

I burned it as a cd, I reburned it as an extraction through rar I even tried running it as is from startup....

the result was...wait for it....
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!

I tried extracting to the disk...I tried burning as a data disk, I tried direct burning...what am I missing, am using ummmmmmmmm....hang on...oh CD Creator 4

Once you have the iso image file(s?) downloaded, you should burn them to a CD.  Your cd writing application, be it east CD creator or whatnot, should have an option for [create disk from image file] or something similar to that.  This is what you need to select.  Using that option, burn the iso file to disk.

Now you have a proper CD.  If you can boot from CDs (most cpmputers nowadays can), pop the CD in, boot from it, the Suse installer shoudl start up, follow the directions.

Using Easy CD Creator


From the menu, click on File.
Select Create CD From Disc Image from the drop down menu.
On the CD creation Setup window, click the Advanced Button, then choose Disk at Once. If you use Track at once, you'll get an unusable CD.
From the File Selection window, change File Type to ISO Image Files.
Double click on the .iso file to be burned.
Click on the Burn CD icon on the File Menu.

Linux doesn't hate you, but maybe Suse does.  Why did you choose Suse anyways?  Thought about Mandrake or Red Hat at all?  Mandrake might be even easier that Suse is.

Maybe your hard drive is booting before your CD-rom is (common thing)

when you get to your BIOS press the boot menu key (usually F8) and select the CD-ROM drive

I chose SuSe because the user "SuSeLinux" in this forum was the first to responde to my first post.

Shortly prior to that i had been sizing up the SuSe package at the Post Exchange and wondering hmmmmmmmmmmm should I get it???

And when I was in Honduras long ago fighting off the rebel hordes, we were plagued by barking gheckos (I know SuSe uses a chameleon, but it's still a fuggin lizard)that were determined to prevent us from sleeping.  I personally believe they were trained by the rebels for PsyOps.

Well for one if you are going to use Suse at least go out and by it for 40$ It is well worth the money spent on it and u get some nice manueals and phone tech support if u have trouble. I bought suse 8.0 pro and it was great purchase and well worth the money.

Using Slackware is never a bad idee, it teaches you allot.
SuSE really isn't bad either.

PS: Burning iso files in Windows:

Simply use WinOnCD.

*First click on Others.
*Pick Track Image (this is always raw)
*Burn the iso.

Other keys that your bios could use for the bios menu would be F1 (through F12 basically), Delete, or Backspace. I've seen them all used. If your BIOS shows a splash screen while the BIOS is doing its dtuff, try pressing Escape, that should make it show you the text behind everything, where there is usually a "Press XX to enter Setup" or something message.

Then look under Boot or Boot Options or something and look for options like "BOot Device #1" or equivalent. It might just be one option "Boot Order" that lets you move them up and down too   .
