As RMS is so fond of pointing out, the closed software community is always threatening to stop or put back some aspect of the open software community. In the same way, the conservative party, for instance, are always a threat to the labour administration, regardless of how foolish they look. This is because some people think one way and some think another. Whatever a lot of people use becomes a standard, now that the net exists, and the market, and more importantly the user base, follows along. If only proprietary standards are set, then open style computing is in a lot of trouble.
