The only way Linux going to be something is by....
« on: 22 September 2002, 23:37 »
The only way I see Linux is gonna to become a Major OS is by:

#1. Forming a Group to work on something like DirectX. So that they can start getting some people to make the same kinda of cool, unique and highly interactive games like MS.

#2 There needs to be a company like Infogames that will promote, publish, and all that other good stuff for ony Linux Games. They need to get some Good Games on the Self of the Big Retailers. and on the Box of the game have it say "A Lunix Game" or something of the kinda. Once Mother, dads and kids see some of the Games that they can play only on Linux they will want to get that game (bardnaming Linux). But of course if they get the game and get Linux if they can't learn how to use Linux Interface in 3days then they will be less likely to go back.

#4 A group of people or a company needs to make something like Visual Basic and promote the products that people make for Linux. Have Software compains that there only reason for being there is to try and make Linux something.

okay, I know that what I said might sound messed up, but if yall think about it yall will get what I'm trying to say.

it seems to me if Linux keeps going the way it is, its gonna to windup being another MAC OS.

1)Making DirectX supported in Linux is  abad thing. If Linux-only games are going to be made, why should they be using Microsoft DirectX?

2)First of all, attempts have been made. The problem was that there was no demand for the games -- at least not compared with Windows games. Second, I doubt people will upgrade their whole OS just to play one game and trash all the other ones.

3) You forgot to make a three, you just skipped to four.

4)Visual Basic is a piece of shit. No one in their right mind would want to make something like it. If you want to make graphical applications easily, then you can combine C/++ with QT.

Edit: There's nothing wrong with Mac OS. It's great -- stable (uses's FreeBSD's 4.4 kernel) and user friendly.

1: OpenGL is better than DirectX. It is cross platform and therefore games made for it can be easier(ly) ported to other platforms.
4: there is many programming Languages that are better than Visual Basic that can do the same thing and MUCH more.

What if MacOS hasn't overtooken the market because it's done all it can, and only MS ignorance is preventing them from suceeding?

Keywords are SOMETHING LIKE. So basically DirectX makes it easier to do Windows game making, then if the developers had to make their own libaries(although their libraries would be better). So the Linux equvialent would do just that, but WAY better.(because it's Linux)

Here's the answer to all that directx gaming shit that windows users always trot out as the reason computers were ever invented... i think i will be linking to this page a lot in future.[/url]

To answer the quesiton about visual basic, i say HA!

unix has had programming languages developed on it, unlike windows which has ripped off basic and plumbed bits onto it.

No i don't know much about programming yet, but to me the history seems to show that Microsoft's attempts have always been quick fix catch up attempts geared towards making money more than making sense.

WTF?! That site says WineX is free! Ummm it does mention Transgaming though. Is there a difference between Code Weavers and Transgaming?

Errr I mean MS ignorance in general, as in what is in everybodies mind. I highly doubt MS would succeed if they didn't have the brainwashing thing going for them.

Sorry, too hardcore these days. I know you guys have learned to live with less gaming and more real-life, but not me.

Oooooooooooooooooooooh!!!

You didn't just say something stooopid and backslap macs at the same time, did you?

You are gonna be sorry!

A real OS should not be based on games! By the way.

Oh? Well maybe not for the corps. I remember reading how the reason why Macintosh didn't have enough games on it was due to them marketing themselves as a serious buisness platform. I read this in 1996 btw. Now we all know that Macintosh failing to compete with the PC is NOT the reason they are not #1. It's MS buisness practices, and you'll never learn that anywhere besides MES or allied websites(because that counts in the conspiracy category). However in the early days, I doubt Wind0ze success wasn't driven by our moderen day zombieness, so Macintosh with an open for games message could of put a huge dent in MS early on(helping us out today perhaps).

I could agree with that. In '96 Apple had an add campaign aimed at convincing busnesses that Apple's were good buisness computers too.

But I don't think they were trying to re-focus their market tword buisness. I would say the game's issue is not as bad as it was before. Game's are coming out left and right now adays so it ain't to bad.

Gaming on the Mac sufferd a dryspell in Apple's dark period. When Job's came back and resurected things, gaminge began creeping back.

If you look at the early days of mac. I meen maybe up to like, 1992, Mac and PC were getting relitively the same amount of games, not necissarly ports, just the same amount. Belive it or not there were many Mac only games in those days! WOW! what a concept  ;)

Whatever. I don't miss not having every FPS that come's along, my taste in games is very selective and luckely everything i like (with few exeptions) has come out for the Mac.
