Hmmm, I've been using VNC for years. This is the first I've heard of tightVNC. Downloading now....

I run a VNC server app on Mac OS X and can use any good VNC client to connect from anywhere on the campus network so that I can use my computer from anywhere. it's cool

TightVNC has a few more options and seems to be a little faster (better compression).

Also bazoukas, if you havn't figured it out yet you can run any desktop window manager you want with the Linux vncserver by modifying your "~/.vnc/xstartup" file. The default is dumb old twm window manager. In RedHat I just copy the "/etc/X11/xinit/Xclients" file over top of my "~/.vnc/xtartup" file and it will load the same default desktop that you would get if you had logged in locally (set the default desktop in the "/etc/sysconfig/desktop" file).

Also make sure you password protect it with "vncpasswd".

I havent tried running VNC as a server on RedHat yet. I did some experimenting with my cousin in Greece. I was on windos and he was on gentoo. I will install the client Side of VNC tomorow in Red Hat and see how it works.

 We are three guys doing this project for our final and they are NOT showing the very least of intrest about it,their C++ skills are,,ummm bad, plus they never used Linux, so this is gonna be kinda intresting (doing the connection, plus writing a complex -for me at least- C++ program to present) and testing the whole kazzam out. I will mainly do all the testing using the Schools PCs and connecting to my Rig through school.

The vncviewer part under Linux is a no brainer, it's the same as it is in Windows. Just run "vncviewer", or use your web browser as a vnc client (Mozilla works well as long as you have Java installed and turned on).
