my 9600 pro works just fine on Linux...but it probably depends on which version of Linux, though all the distros I've tried have supported it, and the M6 mobility in my laptop as well.

graphics wise, the Radeons are just as good as an nVidia, if not better (the 9800 in my other computer is so much better than it's geForce predecessor.)
Microsoft is not the answer.
Microsoft is the question.
"No" is the answer!
The nice thing about Windows is - It does not just crash, it displays a dialog box and lets you press 'OK' first.

I have a 9700, and it works ok under Fedora.

However, according to the RedHat hardware guide, this card may require you to edit your xf86config files, adding a "nodri" line.  I didn't have to, and it wouldn't be hard if I did.  Anyway.
