Newbie Looking to Convert

I am seriously looking to convert to an OS other than MS.  Currently, I have a box with Win2k.

I do a lot of database (SQL Server) work, and need the Win2k machine for certain apps, but my question is, can I set up a server with Linux and run a fully functional SQL Server database?

How much information do I need to know for setup and tweaking the system?  Can you recommend books/online tutorials that can assist me in my quest?

Thanks.

Take a look at Mandrake or SuSE.  They both come with SQL Servers like mysql and postgres. both are easy to install and simple to setup.  But if you wanna put some hair on your chest youll install slackware and compile and install postgres.  Thats the shit im talking about.  As for online resources check out www.linuxdoc.org, everything you could ever want to know about is there.
If ignorance is bliss, why aren't there more happy people?
