Coyote Linux
« on: 5 February 2004, 22:23 »
The hard disk of my router is dead. It's very old and it stopped working. I guess it couldn't handle all the data it had to send tru for my non-dedicated Counter-Strike, Jazz Jackrabbit 2 or Unreal Tournament (2003 sucks) server from my computer.

If I was only forced to use Windows, I wouldn't even have figured out where the hell port forwarding is at (too difficult), and I had to wait for a new hard disk before my router worked again.

But no, I inserted a Knoppix CD, started Lynx (couldn't got X started due to old hardware) found Coyote Linux, installed it.

So, Coyote Linux was blindingly easy to install. The hardest part was selecting the driver module, but I soon figured it out.
I rebooted, booted the floppy, and I had internet on my computer in just 2 minutes, and all just from a standard 3.5 inch floppy with 1.44 MB RAM. How cool is that?

Interesting...downloaded it in case.

I noted that it comes with 2.4.23, which had some high-profile security bugs and was superceded in like 2 weeks.

The fact that it's loaded from a floppy makes it very secure. Every time you reboot the PC, Coyote Linux installs all over again (only takes 2 minutes).
