Redhat 7.2 Webserver
« on: 28 January 2003, 04:57 »
I'm looking into setting up a webserver to host a few peoples sites using redhat 7.2.  I'm pretty new to linux, so if I use the version of apache that comes with 7.2 would I be alright? If not, how would I go about updating it, If I install a GUI I probably could do it easily but is there a way to update things from the command line?

Since im hosting other people's sites, I plan on having an FTP server. Any suggestions on an easy to configure FTP server?

Thanks

RH7.2 ships with outdated software.

If you're using some sort of a control-panel (Ensim WEBppliance, H-Sphere, CPanel/WHM, etc.), it'll update everything for you.

You can use "up2date" to update most of your packages. You can also reinstall them from source.

Dont bother using the out of date version of Apache that comes with Red Hat 7.2. My suggestion is to download and install either Apache 2.0.44, or 1.3.27 from http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi and compile it yourself.
