This semi bites. (Red Hat 7,3)
« on: 28 July 2002, 10:11 »
I just installed RH3. Two things that RH3 didnt do compared to Mandrake.

1) When i go to DEV i cant see my slave windows HD. In shell when i type /dev/hdd it says that acess is denied. Yet on  Hardrake I can see the HD.

2) When i did the install i chose Lilo. It gives me a choice between Linux and DOS. When i choose DOS a "L?" appears and nothing else happens.

 Any suggestions?

first lilo is ancient and you should have installed grub, and second, redhats has tighter permissions on things cause it's in addition to being meant for desktop, it is also meant for servers

First of all lilo is ancient, but so is unix, and things improve with age. I found this link to help you troubleshoot with lilo. http://www.preggers.easynet.be/lilo.html

That's like saying that one could easily get rid of a fly on your ankle by cutting your feet off.

So could you explain the problem you had and how you fixed it?  Maybe it will help someone in the future.
Someone please remove this account. Thanks...

Yep I noticed the same thing when I installed RedHat7.3 over my Mandrake install.

As for lilo and the dos OS it lists...it's not there just delete the section for the dos in /etc/lilo.conf  it will say something like other=/dev/hdd5.

Delete that and the lines that follow it up to the next image=**** section.

As for your vfat (fat32) drive at /dev/hdd5 or whatever, just add this line to /etc/fstab

/dev/hdd5  /mnt/windows    vfat    umask=0  0 0
