Open Source is a threat to software market!

Open source is doomed to failure because it is horrible for business. Making commercial software open source is a horrible idea!

For example, if say a company was to make a great commercial program and release its code to the public, it would go out of business. People would just change a few things in the code, and recompile it and let other download. Nobody would then buy the program from its original maker.

unless you use the BSD license and mix it with closed technologies, the way Apple does. I don't see them losing money on Mac OS X and NeXTStep technologies
Go the fuck ~

Uh. No. Only the businesses that cannot adapt to new business models will fail. And there are the different licenses to contend with. The GPL would require whomever changed the code to release it back to the community. You can still charge for the software, and being open will require your software to be fukcing kick ass, instead of half-ass like Microsoft software.

Wrong MS corp.

As of right now we have half jacked ass programmers all around us. Keeping everything closed source makes us run around the block over and over again and again.

Company A needs a specialized application. It hires programmers, pays them good, they make the program.
Company B needs a specialized application. Sees there is already one writen for what they need, but it needs to be customized for their needs. Hires programmers. Pays them good, programmers do the changes, original program gets even better.
Both companies save TONS of money by not having to buy programs with features they dont need.

You have progression of application and you dont have people running around the same block over and over again. You have evolution.

It wasn't until companies and small businesses started migrating to Linux.
