Debian problems....
« on: 28 August 2002, 06:15 »
Well....I got X running...that's good...

I am having trouble adding additional software from teh ISO CDs I got from linuxiso.org.  When I run dselect, it asks me a bunch of questions regarding the directory tree of the burned CDs.  I tried mounting them, and then looking through them to find the hierarchy, but I have no idea where the packages themselves (*.deb) are located.

Second, I am trying to run my DSL script once I login. When I execute my script, I get his error "Warning: Interface eth0 is still in BROADCAST mode."  What mode does eth0 need to be in, and how do I change that?

I'll try to help you, but I've got to go to my Doctor this morning; I'll see what I can find out when I get back; in the mean time, try apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade.

Nah, just routine maintainence; 's funny, my blood pressure was the lowest it's been in years, maybe shittin' on that fools shoes DID do me some good.
RE: Debian;
do yourself a favor and stay away from dselect; it's the most confusing iteration of the Debian package management system that they ever came up with- stick with apt.  If you absolutely need a GUI manager, install Storm Package; it's from the old Storm Linux distro; it's very intuitive, and works really well (for a GUI app). It's available for "Woody", just' apt-get install stormpkg'  (without quotes).
As to DSL, you're going to have to ask someone else, I use 56K (poverty SUCKS!!)
