Letters... Ah, open source. Is there a topic more likely to spark an animated discussion among geeks of a certain type?

It's interesting to see that the author believes that the main reason to choose Open Source software is a vendor lock-in.
However, not all propietry software have the intention to do such a thing, and the reason would become jepordised when Microsoft chooses to change it's strategy (which is unlikely at this point).
