Counter-Stike is one of the worls biggest played games (well, mod) yet there isnt even a Linux port for it :/

I think its time that got sorted ;D

OK. That's stupid. It's a Half-Life mod. Half-Life uses DirectX to my limited gaming-knowledge, a Microsoft graphics API. Do you really think Microsoft will port DirectX to Linux?

Ha.

Besides, Half Life, CS, and all of those others mods suck. They're also getting old. Look into a nice, recent game, such as Unreal Tournament 2003, that has a Linux port.

"CS sux" is the dumbest thing ive ever heard!
People have different tastes in gaming, and the only game i like right now is HL/CS. Is this ok with you?!
I did play UT2003 for a wghile, but it got boring, unlike the ever-lasting CS.

Counter-strike Condition Zero, will be released soon - a brand new games (1 player CS). is this better for you? being as new games are the only games allowed to be played"?

i love CS, or at least i did the last time i played counter strike about 3 or 4 years ago...

i thought half life was ported for linux (i remember seeing linux server in the halflife online thingy, back then i didn't know what linux was and only knew i couldn't join those games)

Come on guys, I don't think we need to bicker about little things.  This thread is here because he wanted help getting Counter-Strike working with WineX, and so far he hasn't received any advice about it.

Anyway, Badass, have you tried a fake windows installation for it yet?  I think you'd have much better luck if you didn't try to run it from your XP partition.  Forgive me if you have already tried it.

I've never installed WineX by CVS before, so I don't know exactly how it works, but when you were running ./tools/wineinstall before, after the long compiling process, did it ask you if you wanted to use your windows installation?

Assuming that it did, I would recommend going back into the directory where you compiled WineX, log in as root, type "make uninstall", then just run "./tools/wineinstall" again.  This time, since everything is already compiled, it won't take long at all.  Then, when it asks if you want to use an existing windows installation or create a fake one, choose the option to use a fake windows installation.  Also let it create a config file for you.

Anyway, this is rather complex, and I can't guarantee it will work, but if you've tried everything else, it's at least worth a shot.

Or, feel free to respectfully decline my suggestions.  I won't be offended.    ;)

Well, I have it running under linux, in wine and winex. Pretty fast too at 1024 windowed. But the way I have it set up is to install both wine and winex in separate directories under /opt. Then I make scripts in /usr/bin both pointing to different ones. I don't remember exactly how the script goes, but it is available somewhere.

CS is awesome.  It requires a slight amount of strategy.  Especially compared to UT.  UT requires to little strategy and people get blown away so often they created a new word "frag."  CS only has one technical error.  The counter terrorists have to buy their weapons.  As if the government refuses to buy them top of the line stuff.  Other than that CS is perfect.  In UT you could push the mouse button every once and a while and kill someone.  Aint gonna happen in CS.  I would like to see a Linux port.  I would more like to see a Mac port though.  Although it may be possible to run the Linux port of CS on my mac if it is not processor dependant like Wine is.

Hey BG: try bochs. Seeing as you're on a mac. But it doesn't look like they have OSX support yet. Just linuxPPC.

I have WineX installed, i did do as emh suggested, and my fake windows is /home/baddass/c/windows

I have tested WineX by running winamp and mIRC, both ran good.
I can geyt Half-Life to boot from my windows partition - but thats as far as it goes, i cannot get CS options.

I cannot run the Half-Life setup.exe to install it in my fake windows.

I will try copying it from my windows partition accross to my fake windows, hopefully this will work.

Yesturday and the previous night i was at a LAN, and because i couldnt get CS to work i was forced to use Windoze *shudder* :/
I do a lot of LANing, and it would be nice if i didnt have to change OS everytime.
