The reason this is the way it should be... there are in fact people who use Linux to just get things done and not to dick around with some source code.

But you said you didn't want any dependencies. The only way to avoid that is to package everything the application needs with the application.
And there's no reason he couldn't have installed wine binaries from an RPM or similar package, either he just chose to install from source or no packages have been produced.

What made you think you can't do that in linux?
It's actually even more easy, you only need to click on a name(no drag-and-drop needed).  ;)

what makes me think that? the fact that I've never had it work.

and no, using the installer is NOT better, because you cannot choose where to put it, because it has to go in one of the pre-determined folders.

Jimmy: Things really aren't _that_ hard in Linux, although the part about not being able to put it where you want is very true. Hehe, just wait for Komodo to be released.

Ecsyle: People like some Windows applications that haven't been released for Linux. People also HATE Windows. People wanna use SOME Win apps in Linux. Same as on Erudition

Dood who started this thread: Why the fuck are you using IE on Linux. Use Mozilla or Konqueror or one of the other free and standard browsers. They work MUCH better than IE.

Jimmy you are truely a moron, UNIX is very different, you can change where things install, but there is no reason. In real UNIX style systems things are all in one place. Makes things a hell of a lot easier, and practicle.
