I did a little more testing with wolfenstein to get highest possible framerate, for testing purposes I reverted back to the 1541 driver on linux as to use the same driver core on both os'es

1024x768 resolution (max for my lcd monitor   :(   ), all grgaphical options max.

On the beach level in multiplayer (playing alone, local server) on windows the max fps was about 80 but was usually around 50. On linux I turned AA off and had a smooth 160fps on the beach level (dropped my jaw right on the floor)

In hallways on windows was about 120 fps, on linux about 250 fps.

I still can't quite believe it by the way .... 160fps in one of the most graphically intensive spots.... a f*cking mazing

conclusion : linux kicks windows ass bigtime with 3d

forgot to mention something again, my geforce was overclocked under windows, and not under linux, so linux kicks windows' ass BIGtime  ;)

If you can't learn to do something well, learn to enjoy doing it poorly.

Hey, maybe you should give www.theregister.co.uk some pointers on how to do real benchmark comparisons.  They don't have a clue over there. They do the most useless comparisons I have ever seen.
