Using a PCI video card on RH8.0...

I was trying to install RH 8.0 onto my system. It has a 810 integrated video card, but I have upgraded that to an ATI Radeon 7500 64MB PCI and disabled the integrated intel 810.

But RH detected the intel 810 video card instead, so I manually changed that to Radeon 7500. The problem is when the system trys to start X, the screen just froze up although I can move the mouse cusor around.

Any sugguestions how I can fix that?

I have a stupid question. How could it have detected the 810 if you have it disabled? Is there a jumper on your main board for really disabling it?

Try running XF86Setup, xconfigurator, or xf86config, and manually specifying the new video card, rather then letting something automatically detect it.

When I first ran linux on an i810 chipset, I was using RH6.2 which didn't come with an agpgart kernel module.  Without agpgart, the i810 graphics chipset is crippled because it can only use something ridiculous like 512kB video RAM.  I added an S3VirgeDX PCI card and had no problems.  No jumpers were necessary.  

Later, when I went to RH 7.1, I pulled the PCI card and reconfigured the system to use the i810. Again, no jumpers were needed.

Maybe you are right, I might not have disabled it. I only switch the primiary video from onboard to PCI. I will try to see if I can find any jumpers onboard that actually disable the onboard video (the mobo didnt come with any documentation at all)

Hi, thanks for the advice, the reasons why I am using the pci video card are:

1) the integrated video card doesnt support up to 75hz@1280x1024
2) i do abit of gaming on windows (this is a dual boot machine)
3) i need a video card has a s-video output to connect to my TV (for dvds and other video files)

Right now, I couldnt find any jumpers on the board that will disable the integrated video (no other documentations as well).

Where/what files should I try to configure then.
