Red Hat 5.0 can't read DOS formatted floppy's
« on: 4 December 2002, 01:38 »
OK, I was over by a friends housse and he's using Red  Hat 5.0... his networkcard wouldn't work, and so he placed the two driver files (an *.o and  a *.c) on a DOS formatted floppy.

He could mount the floppy drive correctly, but there didn't appear to be anyting on it. My thought about it, is that Red Hat 5.0 can't read DOS  formatten floppy's... am correct, and if so, how do I solve this problem?

I know for a fact it can read DOS floppies. In fact I could read DOS floppies on the first version of RedHat. "vfat" wasn't an option back then but I believe it was "-t msdos". You could also install "mtools" which will allow you to use DOS-like commands to read/copy data to/from the floppy. mtools gives you commands like "mdir", "mcopy", etc. With mtools there is no need to mount the floppy.
Someone please remove this account. Thanks...
