I found bug in linuxoze
« on: 2 April 2004, 20:31 »
I dont know you know it or not, is it fixed or not, but I believe its just stupid bug, not dangerous. So you boot up komp, linuxoze boots up, right?

so until you got some kind of login prompt to get in the system:

>> domain login (type some kind of user in there)
>> domain pass (type password that do not match username)

// because password will be incorect, linuxoze will try to verify it about 2-3 seconds. During this shit, you type some trash, AAAAAAAAAAAA first second, and another second delete this shit with backspace key. (rapildly press it). you will not even delet some your typed trash, but after incorrect login you will delete some prompt message, finaly you will get:

>>domain lo

// (hehe ,you deleted some prompt message, that you are not allowed to do it normaly)
so if you wanna login in system normaly, you just ignore all shit, and type login name and password. Dont try to complete your deleted phease , cuz you will not login.  Tryed this shit even in boot, even in simple console, i think this should be fixed, because it make a look "that its something wrong.."

I rather call that "abusing your own system".
Why would that be a bug anyway?

Actualy yeah maybe this is not a bug , but strange shit, imo it should not be such things. This decrease reputation and creates "image of unfinished OS"

DukePuke,

If you're having trouble with slackware, it might help to switch to something like mandrake or fedora while you learn the file structure, commmands, and general ins & outs of the system.

Both of these distros are much more "automated", and require much less manual configuration.

Much of what happened was for login security; no backspacing user IDs or passwords, it's supposed to be that way.  As for the deleting of part of the prompt, that's weird.

Here's an idea for you DukePuke:  log in as root, then type in telinit 4.   Watch the awesomeness.  :D   To make that happen by default you gots to edit a file, I think it's /etc/inittab.  There's a line that'll have "initdefault" in it, with a 3.  Change that 3 to a 4.  Then that'll happen when you start up.

PS: In Slackware it's 4, not 5, so don't try to correct me  ;)

What he has advised you to do it bona fide and safe, if you dont believe him, look at the manpage for init (man init) or search google.

You are right to be cautious, but wrong in this case
