yeah, suprisingly i have used both apt-get and rpm. rpms don't have a built in "go find the missing package" feature its just a different way of doing things.

now on xp luser. i think

Huh?  Since when does RPM not check dependencies???  That's news to me, and one of the things I *like* about RPM, it does check dependencies.  It tells you when something else needs to be installed or if it conflicts with something else.  Sure it doesn't install those dependencies automatically, but I prefer that.   Drops the whole damn mess in your lap?  Example?

Also, let me say that I use both RedHat and Debian.  I like both package managers.  I have found that RPM takes more "learning" to get to know your way around it but once you understand it, it's great.

rpmfind works just fine for me, although I usually use http://rpmfind.net which always get's me what I want.

I haven't used dpkg before but from what I've heard it's somewhat "superior" to RPM. As I said I haven't used it so I don't know if this is true.

Anyway, back to the problem. Master I don't know how the fuck you got to that point. Not only haven't I come across that problem before myself, I haven't seen it anywhere else too!! Try rebuilding the RPM database as VoidMain suggested. I too think that this should fix the problem.
