On a drive that small you have no need for a "/boot" partition.  And I would not go lower than 128MB swap as the first partition on the drive.
Someone please remove this account. Thanks...

I agreed with voidmain before and asked what file system and kernel you opted for; my reccomendation was ext2 for the F/S, and the 2.2.xx kernel; you can upgrade the kernel with apt-get.

We are on the front end of a Debian load.  The Kernel and file system are up to you guys.  Remember, we will later be putting the two Windows apps (AutoCad 13 and PhotoShop 5.5) on the second 1.2 gig HD.  For now, I need for you to tell me how you want the JDebian install set up.

Remember too, I am following YOUR (the majority's) directive on this install.  You make the decisions, I am just loading disks and hitting keys.

What file system do you guys want and what should I do next relative to that file system and the partitions that I should be creating during the load?

You have my vote on the F/S and kernel; my gut feeling is a boot floppy; you can add LILO or GRUB later.

Well, I screwed THAT up, didn't I?
I said, with the limited space available ./ and ./user would be about all the partition you could have, 250Mb. for ./ and the balance for ./user

It's the best way to boot off the HD, but I think that , for now, a floppy with GRUB is the way to go.

I am sitting here on the "cfdisk 2.11n" page of the install.  Having never installed Debian before, I await your instructions.

so you have an hda and an hdb.
first make the swap on the first drive...
# cfdisk /dev/hda
: n
: p
: 1
: +100M

(i think that is correct)

Are you comfortable, are your shoes too tight, can I get you a drink?
Perhaps now would be the time to create partitions?  Maybe a Primary partition that uses the whole available space, and then carve that up into whatever everybody decides.
