right now it shows the following things under the following categories:

Name   Flags   Part Type   FS Type   (Label)   Size (MB)
hda1   Boot    Primary     FAT16     (DISK1PART01)
1081.7
               Pri/Log     Free Space
   2.0

What do you want changed/added?

SD

Delete that partition, then create a primary ext2 partition that uses all the available space, then create extended partitions for swap (reccomend 128 Mb.), 500 mb /user, and the balance would be ./ (root).  Then write the partition table.

if you make the all available space a partition you have no room for the swap....... Debian doesnt use slices like BSD does, does it?

No, but you can create an extended partition for swap, Linux recognizes that.

if you fill all available space with an Ext2 then there wont be any room for an extended partition.

SON OF A @!#$%.

I just got a phone call and have to go troubleshoot my best client's system.  Of course it's a fuckin' Winders system....WHY THE HELL ELSE WOULD IT CRASH ON A SUNDAY NIGHT!

Can we resume tomorrow evening around 6:00 CDT?  I am not "on call" tomorrow night so we should not be interrupted.

Getting a service call on a Sunday night really PISSES ME OFF, but there is nothing that I can do about it if I want to get paid.

Please solidify (by agreement) the partition sizes and names.  I will try to have that done when I log back in tomorrow night.

Till then....

As I'm positive Sleeping Dog is about ready to strangle someone right now, I suggest we all back off a couple of steps; Debian is a pain in the ass to set up partitions in, and even though SD has made this a Democratic install, everybody has expressed their ideas; lets let the poor bastard alone for a bit.
SD, we'll check back; if you need us, ASK.

It would work fine, but if the system crapped out (they do that, you know) having apps you don't want to loose on another partition might save a lot of time on a re-install; that's why I suggested a /user partition.
