« on: 20 December 2002, 06:36 »
ive used linux on other peoples computers. and now i have a 2nd computer and have decided to install Red Hat on it. well i went to there site, went to download. But when it comes up, its an ftp directory ( i couldnt get the main linux server to download anything, so i had to use a mirror). Well i realized im not quiet sure what folder to download from or what. Since its a directory its got tons of folders and files and im at a loss for which files i should be downloading. anyone have the answer?

Are you using a mirror site or the main FTP site?

From the mirror site I used I went to:

--> linux
--> 8.0
--> en
--> iso
--> i386

and from there downloaded all the iso files.
The 4th and 5th files are the source code, and its not necessary to have that, even to do a full install.  So just downloading:
psyche-i386-disc1.iso
psyche-i386-disc2.iso
psyche-i386-disc3.iso
will be enough

BTW, you might want to checkout www.linuxiso.org - it lists ISO images for most distros, neatly organized so you just have to click one or two links.

Or copy the CDs from those other people. Unlike most proprietary software you can copy GPL programmes to your hearts content.
