Slow mouse cursor (mandrake 8.2)

When I'm running X under Mandrake 8.2 the mouse cursor is painfully laggy (4-5 seconds) and is practically unusable.

It works fine in the installer, and Mandrake 7.

Any ideas on how to fix this? It's a serial mouse on ttyS0.
