According to eWeek, several major linux distribution companies will cooperate to all release the same distro, in order to present a stonger alternative to Red Hat Linux.

You will notice as well here that Sun Microsystems will bring out their own Linux distribution, so handbags at dawn all round then...

what d'ya think??? eh?

United Linux.  It is a group effort between SuSE, TurboLinux, Connective, and Caldera.  They will create this distro mainly for bussiness and enterprise costomers.  Each company will continue to make their main distros.  And I think each company will base the next version of their respective distros on the United Linux codebase.  So obviously these 4 companies have alot of work to do, in order to unify their distros in this way.

Looks like we're posting the same topics. This thread I started related to the same subject. Have a look at the link I'd provided    .

Well I guess it is a popular subject.

I will point out that United Linux is NOT for the home user.  It is intended for bussinesses.  You will not be able to downlaod free binaries.  But the source code is fully available for free in accordance with the GPL.  So the only way for a home user to try it out is to buy it or to find a way to install from pure source.

Home users can get distros loosely based on United Linux when Caldera, SuSE, and Connectiva release a new version of their respective distros.  I didn't list TurboLinux there because I don't think they provide free binaries either.
