slackware or debian

i have a 60mhz pentium sitting around /*no i didt forget a zero*/ with a 500 megabyte harddrive and a massive 32 megs of ram. it is currently running debian but i am wondering whether slackware would be a better solution for it and for some that would ask this is not my main machine. but it can crunch a seti packet every week and i am wonder which runs faster

On a machine that slow, I have no idea what would be better.

Sticking with debian might be the best idea, since it already works and as you said can do a SETI packet in a week(pretty good considering the machine's specs).

on that note i am in the middle of building a pentium 100mhz system, what do you guys think i should install on it

Hmmmmm.. You could always try building your own linux such as 'Linux from Scratch' or 'Build your Own Linux (BYO Linux)'

actaully, you might have missed my other post about ChoasnetOS, my idea was to build it thing on a 2 gig harddrive that is sitting in my 8 ide drive setup boot the machine with say a floppy, then have the floppy mount the / through nfs, and run the machine without a harddrive, that would almost be a diskless workstation

You might want to look into Gentoo Linux. It's supposed to be the fastest. They tweaked it up just for speed.

yeah i tried to get it working on my main computer but my isp was being ghey at the time /*still is*/ i will probably end up using gentoo, though, i just need the machine up now, i think i am going to use FreeBSD on it. actually, OpenBSD doens't look too bad, though, cuase i am looking to use the 100mhz system for a server, though thanks for the advice

o and for xp luser, suprissingly i am actally installing a MODERN os on the computer that will run very well a machine of those specs. BSD is soo damned good even microsoft uses it, so put that in your pipe and smoke it, /*couldn't resist telling the truth*/

how does one go about installing OpenBSD on a system with a scsi card and drive, i never tried to install OpenBSD on anything.
