My advice is simple. Just go ahead and do it. Just install and find out where you have problems. Then, if you have to, track down the extra drivers if you need them. This is after all the same technique you will use with M$ Windows 2000.
Either that or check the website of your distribution of choice for hardware support, with a toshiba it depends on what proprietary on-board hardware they used this time. There is a reason Toshiba are cheaper than HP.
Just do it man. As for autodetect, if it can it will.
