student question

Most of the books I buy for classes now have cd's that are for Windows only. It's rare to even find one that is mac compatible. I currently have Windows XP for this sole reason. I'm interested in switching to an OS that is more reliable, but know nothing of what's out there and if they will run the cd's that come with my textbooks. Anyone know if you can get them to run on another OS?

On a Mac you can use Virtual PC to use your CD.

Keep returning them cause they don't work on your PC. After a 1OO times they'll get the message.
Irritate them as hard as you can.

PS: You could also run them in Linux using dosbox, dosemu, or wine.      

If none of all that works, make a dual boot with a small Windows- and a big Linux partition.

Virtual PC in Mac OS X or VMware in Linux will run those CDs perfectly. I still run a dual boot Linux/Windows though.. it's probably the easiest and cheapest thing to do.

Not the most convenient way, but the most effective. \o/

Thanks for all the input. I think I'm going to start  learning about linux and see about getting that on here.

VMWare on linux works, but why not use the free version of Wine?
