Could you post the actual conf file? I have somewhat an idea what you did wrong (something I did wrong too  ;) ).

Your nvidia driver self-destructed. I've noted this to happen a lot on Mandrake 10. Just reinstall the driver and reboot.

i will try what wmd sais. i dont know how to bring up the conf file without my x enviroment (kde) and even if i did i would haveto copy it out on paper then re-type it on this computer. so i will log into it, cd to the dekstop where the file is, but last time i remembered just type 'vd then Tab ' and it will fill out the rest of it. but when i was in the linux kernel it didnt do that. how do i get it to do this?

wmd: my fstab looks like this now.

/dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
/dev/hda6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850,noauto,ro,exec 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy autofs user 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
----
i fixed my nvidia drivers. uninstalled them now 3d games work now.
----
i edited the fstab then saved.
went into Konsole and typed:
mount /mnt/floppy
it still sais permission denied. i saved an mp3 on the floppy with win98.
problem not solved yet.

i don't mean to insult your intelligence, but does the floppy have the write protect switch on?

You can still mount a floppy (in read-only mode) if its write protected. I've just tried it myself in XFCE in Vector Linux.
