i agree totally, and this is no throwaway quip here either, fettid fred has a prejudice against linux and tends to blame any problems he/she encounters on the system itself rather than his/her own ignorance (which i suspect is often the cause). This is not intended as an insult towards fett, since most people are ignorant about most things. the problems start to arise when people get pissed off when they fuck things up and then start blaming others, in this case others who have worked long and hard so people like fett could have a totally free and open source system to run as a server et c.

I haven't blamed Linux once, but I'm not the only person to have a problem with linup. Either way, I've been told thet it's impossible to freeze a Linux box completely and totally.

In my experience it is impossible to freeze linux in text mode.  There's got to be something wrong with your hardware.

heh...try killing init on bootup. kernel panics suck (i've had a total of 3 so far, 2 of them from something stupid i've done intensionally or unintensionally. the other just surprised me (was with redhat8))

Man, I've never had one kernel panic... ever.  And i've been using linux for over 2 years.  Maybe it's because I dont' go around typing "killall init" as root, or something.

I've had X freeze on me though (I blame the nvidia drivers that were out at the time)  It doesn't happen with the new drivers, fortunately.  I've never gotten Red Hat Linux 8 or 9 to crash.  And I leave my computer on all day, too.
