Dependancy/RPM Problemos
« on: 2 January 2003, 11:25 »
Code: [Select]

Okay thats my ordeal. I really need a guitar programme, and this one looks damn good (KGuitar) but it wont install. The thing is some of those dependencies there look like they're real KDE Base stuff (ie. needed to run). Is this due to RH killing KDE? Or is the program looking for old versions?

Anyway any help would be great, Thanks!

Hmmm, I did a quick search for the files on my system (RH 8) and I found them all but mostly in more recent versions, or i.e. for libkdesu.so.1 I found libkdesu.so and libkdesu.so.4.

I guess you could install the libraries from rpmfind.net if you realy need the program.

What I would like to know is, aren't you gonna create some new dependency problems by installing those different versions?

well i do use red hat 8 and i do use kde, It baffles me to the max that it wont work. they look like those files are NEEDED to run KDE. I dont want to kill any programs by installing old librarys :S symlinks?

Like I said, all the files were present but mostly in different versions, so they are present for KDE to run.

My guess is that these are just libraries and you could install them without breaking the programs that use the more recent versions, but I'm in no way  qualified to tell that with certainty.
I've heard so much about dependency hell, it would just seem too easy to install the missing libraries and be good to go ....

I don't know about creating symbolic links though.

i'd recommend just doing that too. just search for those files on rpmfind.net and install all the rpms that seem most relevant to your system that contain the files you need. remember to install them all with 'rpm -Uvh' since it is cleaner and i am under the impression it won't damage nqewer versions of the libraries. (might be blowing that out of my arse though)...

You will get a trail of dependencies though by the look of it. I often get fourth or fifth generation dependencies for things when trying to install them. You just have to be determined and know that sooner or later you will have everything that you need installed!
