Dmitry Sklyarov and Jon Johansen thought that way also. The former landed himself in jail for a while, and the latter was tried by the courts in his own nation. Why? For breaking the DMCA, even though they were not in America when they did it. In the end, both of them won in court (Jon is going to get retried though), but it shows you that the RIAA is willing to push American draconian copyright laws on every nation in the world.
Another benefit of using Gnunet is that people in countries with totalitarian governments can access your shared fils under their gov.'s nose.
