need linux install help

well, ive finally snapped when my computer running win95 crashed, so im trying to switch over to linux, but being the newb that i am, i hardly even know what the instructions are saying.  so far ive d/led the iso images and have everything for the install, (i think) but now i dont know what to do.  btw, im installing fedora linux.  So right now its telling me to mount the bootdisk.img to my floppy, but i dont know what its saying or how to do it. they have provide the command line to do it, but it mentions a shell prompt above where i got this and i dont even know what that is.

mount -o loop -t iso9660 <isofilename> <mountpoint>
 
In the above command replace <isofilename> and <mountpoint> with the correct file name and mount point respectively. The directory given as the mount point must exist


now, i know what i should do for the isofilename, but i dont have a clue what the mountpoint should be.

Burn the ISOs on CDs.
The "-o loop" thingy doesn't always work in Windows.

PS: If you don't have a burner, you'd better unpack them.

ok...ill have to do that once my computer reads cd's which is what im working on now, the guide im using refers to a 3.5 inch diskette...which i dont think is a floppy, but anyway its saying i have to burn the image files onto it, i just tryed copying it but hell if that worked. and they supplied rawwrite.exe but i cant extract it, well, i did, (i think) but it just wont work, its saying im missing some exe called t3h.exe and im just completly lost

edit to previous post, they said to "write" the files not burn....still lost, and you know what i dont get, this iso that everything is on, has about 20 different help files, none of which that work or have anything in them....

edit: oops didnt know theere was an edit button, well anyway when i extract the rawrite.exe from the disk iso's it reads as 0 bytes even though its a program file...

another edit: when i try to extract the same rawrite.exe to the same place a window comes up saying are you sure you want to replace the rawrite.exe in my files worth 0 bytes with this rawrite.exe worth 14000+ bytes.....

ugh, i think id just go back to windows 95 if i could find that stupid dos disk, ill tell you what, we still have a windows 3.1 dos disk, but we dont have the 95 one, or the 98 one....

If you have CD writer, BURN THEM.

personnally id prefer to have my computer reading cds before i waste 3 of my blanks....

chances are ill get a bat from my garage and obliterate that stupid 300 piece of shit...

hmm, maybe ill just sell my gun and make a new computer, already got a harddrive and a case...though it is a server case and not really portable...wait who am i kidding i dont have any friends to lan party with...(dont mind me just rambling to myself...)

well, i finnaly got the bootdisk to work.  i should have figured that it was the stupidest reason why it didnt work before.  the floppy wasnt formatted to take system files...

well thank god that thats over with, now ive got a prompt and have no idea what to do...

i think ill go burn those cd's now

hey insomnia or anyone else, no progress still, im just lazy, but im wondering something. in my Bios settings i can make it autoread my cdrom, which i doubt works but the whole reason i made the bootdisk was so it would read the cdrom.  now when i put the boot disk in it doesnt do anything besides say welcome to windows 98 and some stuff likethat then take my to a "A" drive prompt.  everywhere and everyone i talk to says it should start asking me some questions on an install or something like that but it doesnt.  so does it just automatically read the cdrom once i put the bootdisk in?

I know how to install Mandrake or Slackware without burning files on a CD

You should be able to boot your CD starting from that 'A drive prompt'.
First cd to your cdrom(obviously including your cd).
Look for a dir called dosutils(or something like that).
cd in this dir and you should see some auto-installers.
