Slackware Help
« on: 20 September 2003, 05:24 »
I finally got Slackware installed on my PC.  Lilo was being a real bitch, so I just use a boot floppy.  It us Uber fast.  At least 2x as fast as RedHat.  I was also able to download the gaim tarbals and upgrade to the new version with absolutely no problems.

Here comes my question.  How do I create a new user?  I don't want to be root all of the time.

Oh... gnome on slack is far more Mac like than on RH... yay.

Another annoying problem.  My USB MS Optical mouse  works good... except for the scroll wheel.  How do I get a new mouse driver or whatever I need to do to get the scroll wheel and middle mouse button to work?

*edit*  The middle mouse button does work... but the scroll wheel does not.  Just wanted to fix my sentence.

Never Mind.  Just stopped searching google and took a look at the slackware site.  It had the exact instructions.

However... now I am having trouble installing the NVIDIA drivers.  Something about the kernel header not installed.  It said I can specify it.... but where is it?

ok... more problems.  When I use the new user to open gaim I get a bunch of errors and it can't load.  I think they are permission errors.  But when I type locate gaim it says:
warning: locate: could not open database: /var/lib/slocate/slocate.db: No such file or directory

where is gaim?
