Lotus Notes...

I am in the process of convincing my boss to switch the entire offace over to Linux from Windoze (server and all).  Our company is about to be taken over by another company and their main inventory database is Lotus Notes.  As far as I can see, this would be the only hold back as far as switching to Linux.  Do you know if there is a compatible program or a Linux port for Lotus Notes?

I as recall Notes can be converted to domino fairly easily, and that is now available for Linux.

As Lotus is owned by IBM and IBM has become very pro Linux I would suggest you contact them directly. especially as it is going to be very dependant on what they use notes for (and how they use it). Do they make use of it's full features, or implement the mail service mostly, is there lots of history, large database, is it data entry only for the DB or is it replicating the DB, etc. etc. Size of company and all those boring details. I belive it would be possible, and I think notes can integrate well with other databases - just remember you are dealing with I Beat Meat here so be prepeared for anything.

Lotus AKA IBM

The office is very small (4 people including myself).  We are a company that rents out different types of gauges that are used in the threading of pipe for oil drilling.  This database needs to be able to store info about the gauges, calibration dates as well as notify us when the gauges are almost out of calibration, graphs, rental records, be able to print out forms, etc.  The reason I chose this is because the company who is buying our company (Citra Tubindo) uses Lotus Notes for their main DB and it needs to be compatible with theirs.

We currently use a M$ Access database program. *shudder*  

I will ask IBM.  I visited LotusNotes.com but all it had was info on Windows versions.
