Morphix and Knoppix "EDITED"
« on: 4 September 2003, 15:01 »
I've recently used Morphix and Knoppix and tested them both on my computer, but the part of autoconfiguring devices took more than half a fucking hour and when it finally loaded the mouse, the speaker and the keyboard won't fucking work! It displayed some error messege about /device/something. Any hints on what's happening here? I want to use them   :(

Sorry for the lack of details    I was kind of in a hurry.

Enmity,

/device/something is what?

We can't help you unless you specify the problem.

We know that these things are frustrating and there is a learning curve involved, but to get help you need to give a sensible explanation of what you are attempting to do, what you actually did, and exactly what the resulting error messages are.

OK I tried Knoppix again and it worked fine, but the problem persisted in Morphix (KDE iso).
So I popped the CD in, boots finely and starts loading the stuff. I press F2 for verbose mode to see the process. Everything went on fine till "Autoconfiguring Devices" came. The progress bar just went on to the other side of the screen and hanged for an hour. Then came an error messege:

quote:
Autodetection seems to hang, please check settings of BIOS
But the BIOS didn't give me a problem in Knoppix and mandrake...
So it proceeded to load other stuff, then another error messege popped up when KDE was loading devices:

quote:
device  dev/dsp can't open (does not exist)
Sound device operate under null output device

Then I attempted to use the mouse, it didn't work, same goes for the keyboard, the Cd-rom drive and the floppy drive. My only option was to switch the power off

This usually occurs on motherboards with embedded soundcards and strange videocards. I don't think that you'll have any problems on a nForce motherboard with a GeForce videocard.
