Help? VMware for Win sux

I'm not sure if I want help...
I wanted to install Linux in VMWare at work because I can't overwrite Windows. Both RH8 and Drake9 failed to initialize their graphical installers.
Drake 9 quit with "error 11"
RH8 just quit...I couldn't find an error code.

In Connectix VPC, both slow to a crawl and eventually crash the computer once it starts to install.

Why can't I get these to work in any virtual atmosphere??

Then do a text based install. At the boot: prompt type "linux text".

And look over these VMware RH73 Guest install instructions.

Hmmm, I've loaded RedHat under VMware for Windows before without a hitch, but not RH 8.0. I'll go try it under VMware for Linux right now. Do you have a 7.3 disc set lying around?

I tried the Gentoo Live CD...Xserver says "no screens found". I saw similar entries in the Gentoo Bugzilla.

I don't know why anything just can't WORK.

RH7.3 and Drake 8.X work fine in VPC...

It's going to say that until you get the VMware X server installed.

I'm installing RH8 right now and so far no problems at all (under Linux VMware host though). How far into the install did it get before having a problem?

Hmmm, could it be a bad CD? Do you have the latest copy of VMware? I just finished my RedHat 8.0 install under VMware running under RedHat 8.0 with no problems. I skipped the X configuration part, then copied the XF86Config from my host to my guest, then installed the VMware tools and it works perfectly. I guess I could install VMware under my Win2kAS guest and try and install RedHat under that,  talk about recursively running OSs, doubt that would work.

if there is a linux(host), windows(guest) vmware Guru in here... please direct me to some links.. that are helpful in the install...
i get this
please direct vmware to gcc libraries?? i hit next, cause it has a path in () and it does a lot of "compiling"? and then right back tothe same gcc prompt..
i have rh8, am i missing something to install vmware? anyone have this similar problem?
any help, links, suggestions would be most helpful..thanks..

Might be bad media...After a fresh format I would have around 3.75 GB left for it...

Go into "System Settings">"Packages" and install "Development Tools" and "Kernel Development", then you should be able to install VMware. You will need a patch after you install though. It will run without the patch but you will get an error when you exit VMware. Also there is a bug because of some changes RedHat did in the new kernel that can cause VMware to eat 100% of the CPU and not be too friendly about giving it up. There is a workaround for that as well. I can help you with the two issues if you get VMware successfully installed.

At the beginning of the install try and run the "CD Verification". It might be possible that it is a bad CD. Another thing you can do is flip through the virtual consoles when it get's to that error and see if the disk is indeed full up. Also does your host drive have enough disk space for the file system to be able to grow to the size that you set it to?
