Sorry Microsoft fans... Unreal Tournament 2003 for Linux is almost identical to the Windows version. The Linux and Windows version are even in the same box!

Wow! I just downloaded and checked it out. I am impressed.  A nice installer and everything.    Just goes to show that it can be done, now hopefully the rest will jump on board.

I would buy it but I think my wife would jump in my ass if I let my kids play it with some of the language (not to mention the gore, but I let them play all the Quake stuff and the gore is about the same).

YES I HEARD YOU BAZOUKAS AND I THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I HAD ACTUALLY DOWNLOADED IT FROM YOUR LINK THE OTHER DAY BUT I JUST GOT AROUND TO INSTALLING IT. I KNEW THERE WERE TWO THREADS ON IT AND WHEN I WENT BACK TO GIVE MY FEEDBACK THIS HAPPENED TO BE THE FIRST ONE I CAME ACROSS SO I JUST POSTED HERE.  AGAIN, THANK YOU BAZOUKAS!

I'm not yelling, and man that looks sick. Remember the old days when people often used to epoxy their CAPS LOCK key in the "on" position.

I think I have finally figured out why so many first person shooters are ported to linux. The truth is that linux makes a better server for the fps games than Windows does. Not only is it more stable, but there are more linux servers out there than windows ones, so the people who made the games realized if they wanted a lot of people hosting game servers, they would need a linux port. Just my theory.

I don't believe the game servers are actually normal servers.  Linux by definition is a server because of all of the server software included, although you can use it as a client/desktop.

From people that I know that have set up game servers, they usually just grab an old PC, slap Linux on it, install the game server software and throw it in the DMZ on the corporate firewall cause they usually have a T1+ and the big wigs never know about it.

Linux is the choice because it's free. In order to run it on Windows you need to run the server version of Windows which isn't cheap. The reason you need the server version is because the client version only allows X number of TCP/IP connections. Besides being free, Linux doesn't limit you in any way...

I hope this means that more UT 2003 Linux servers (and hopefully clients too   ) will exceed Windows servers... that would be so damn cool.
