as cool as the new macs are, this one has been in my mind for a while, here goes. were is x86-linux quicktime support, o and crossover plugin dosint count (it does not run fast enough), why can't apple relasse a linux version of quicktime for the rest of use with no money for a dual g4 (i wish i had one) and who hate microsoft. come on, a lot of comercial products have been ported to linux but no quicktime support (well non that i know of for the sorseren format), i can't even pay for *native* quicktime support

one more quicktime ?, is there any place i can write to apple requesting a native version of quicktime for x86-linuxor mabye we could all write? and notice that i said x86-linux, it is the most common variant of linux, so apple couldn't use the excuse that linux is supported on a bazillion platforms and is a little (not toomuch though different it more about the differences in hardware)

Who needs QT when we have "mplayer" that can play almost ANY video format?

http://www.MPlayerHQ.hu/homepage/

I had a little bit of a time getting it installed. I don't know why it isn't included in RedHat but it isn't as of yet. But once installed it can play just about everything. It actually can use the Windows DLL codecs. I do have a problem with the latest Sorenson 3 codecs in MOV files though, although I believe the new mplayer can handle them (as long as you have the codecs).  I'll work on that more tomorrow. It even plays the new M$ media formats..

i know that mplayer can play almost any format (gnutella + divx + mplayer = dmca can dildo rape itself) but  i was talking about the plugin, maybe thats what i will write to the people behind mplayer, make mplayer plugin capable, in a different way then say just telling mozilla the different mime types and what to do with them, like an intagrated plugin, kinda like how quicktime is on windoze and mac

Ahhh, yes that would be cool, one plugin that can play everything and configure your browser for you on install... If they make it a Netscape plugin, Mozilla and Konqueror will pick it up and run with it. They have a mailing list, why don't you post the suggestion?

P.S. I would rather have the MPlayer folks write the plugin rather than Apple. It would be GPL and I could hack it that way. I'm fairly certain Apple would not put out an open source version of QT.  But who knows, they went with Darwin so anything is possible...

yeah, now that i think about it, writing to the guys at mplayer might be a better idea, but i don't think that redhat could distrubute a copy of mplayer(IMHO   DeCSS is perfectly legal). but it would the process of convincing *that* group to make it a plugin, or forking it into a plugin (i am no godly programer so there goes the idea of me writeing my self)

What's the issue? MPlayer is now completely GPL (not sure if all of the codecs are but they would not have to be included, and downloaded later).  Also, I believe MPlayer might also have plugin support.  I saw where there was an option useful for "plugger" which is what I use for Konq.  Haven't dug into it completely yet.
